• Subiect: Architect Ion Mincu (1852-1912) essentially contributed in the elaboration of the modern Romanian architectural style, finally called the Neo-Romanian style. He promoted this style by his own creations and also by contributing in founding the modern Romanian architecture school. He rightfully understood the value of peasant, urban and ecclesiastical traditional Romanian architecture, fusing elements coming from these three components. Besides his architectural works, inspired by the picturesque, familiar aspect of the peasant house, he also restored the Stavropoleos church in Bucharest, and contributed in building some funeral monuments in the Bellu cemetery of Bucharest - such as the Gheorghieff Chapel (1901), and Iacob Lahovary's burial vault (1905), both these monuments synthesizing his artistic credo and his architectural experience. The present paper briefly presents Ion Mincu's activity, and a stylistic analysis of his achievements in the necropolis of Bucharest.
